Reese Crane was born into a Christian household in the suburbs of Detroit, MI in the mid-1960s. Reese's father was a "home missionary" and "church planter" for the Southern Baptist Convention. His mother worked in the fine jewelry retail industry for many years. Reese was in the church as long as he can remember.
Being heavily bullied during his elementary school years, Reese lived in intense fear on a daily basis. One day, around the age of 11, Reese was introduced to pornography magazines. This, and other sexual behaviors, would soon become Reese's means of escape from a very scary world.
Over the ensuing years, with the advent of videocassettes, cable television, DVDs and the internet - which eventually would make porn free to the consumer - Reese found himself journeying deeper and deeper into a very dark and shame-filled world. Reese learned at a young age how to objectify women on the screen as well as in his relationships. While stationed in Germany in the Army in the 1980s, his world of hypersexual arousal exploded as Europe had and still has much less stringent requirements on pornography - as well as prostitution.
In 2000, while Reese was married and a full-time worship leader at a rapidly growing church in the Harrisburg, PA area, he had a devastatingly public extramarital affair. He ended up walking away from his wife, his two children (with one in the womb) and his full time ministry. Reese always says that, "One would think that I hit rock bottom after that horrific experience. The truth is, I hit a very large ledge just inches from the bottom." It would take Reese another 10 years, actually becoming the deepest, darkest spiral to date into porn and sex, before he would actually break free from it altogether in the Fall of 2011. This even lasted about 6 years into his second marriage.
Having an encounter with the Lord at age 46, after 35 years in the grip of this addiction, Reese walked away from porn and illicit sexuality for good and started on a long, arduous journey of healing and recovery. Now, as a sex addiction recovery coach, running men's intensives, Reese seeks to help others break free as well. Reese is fully aware of the emotional, mental and spiritual depravity that is sex addiction. He is also aware that it robbed him of over half his life causing him to hurt so many people while forfeiting so much precious time in his relationship with God the Father. Reese's heart is to reach into the church world (leadership and congregant) and help men break free from this addictive stronghold and live fully for Christ. Reese has seen God's faithfulness in restoration. He knows that same freedom awaits those struggling with this addiction if they will only ask.
Most recently, Reese had the opportunity to travel to Italy and hold his F.E.E.L. Method Intensive for a mix of Italians, Brits and even Americans. What an amazing experience to see the work God started in him, flow out to a different country and continent altogether.
Healing begins where your pain began.
Reese Crane is the founder and president of The Silent Addiction, a nonprofit ministry dedicated to helping men break free from unwanted sexual behaviors, discover their true identity, and reclaim the purpose for which God created them. He also serves as Director of Gateway to Freedom for the Southeastern and Eastern United States and has authored the book, The F.E.E.L. Method an intensive designed to help men uncover and address the emotional wounds beneath their behaviors.
For nearly 15 years, Reese has walked alongside men struggling with sexual addiction, shame, and the hidden wounds that often fuel destructive behaviors. As a licensed pastoral counselor and coach, he received his training through the International Institute of Christian Counseling in Sarasota, Florida, with additional specialized training through the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). He is also certified in the Inner Child Recovery Process developed by Dr. Eddie Capparucci.
Reese leads two recovery intensives: Gateway to Freedom, in association with Be Broken Ministries, and The F.E.E.L. Method, his own intensive designed to help men uncover and address the emotional wounds beneath their behaviors. These programs are offered throughout the year, individually or together, to help men move toward lasting healing and freedom.
At the heart of Reese's ministry is a desire to reignite a man's true identity. He believes that men who have traded their spiritual authority for sexual arousal can rediscover who they are as sons of the Most High God. By understanding the pain behind their choices and embracing the Father's desire to restore them, men can begin walking in the freedom, authority, and purpose Christ intended for them.
Originally from Central Pennsylvania, Reese now lives in Lakeland, Florida, with his wife, Wendy, an author and legal assistant. Her debut novel, The Scandal of Virginia Grey, explores infidelity and God's redeeming grace. Together, they are the proud parents of three adult children.
